During a season of transition in my life, I entered the gig economy. In my case, it was through ride-share driving. I drove for Lyft and Uber. They were new to the market I lived in at the time. It was the wild west in many respects. The platforms were investing massive dollars into recruiting. I would drive early in the morning. I would drive from about 5:00 am to about 10:00 am and then back out from about 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
Not a long day. It allowed me to work in between shifts and also return text or phone calls involving other projects when needed. The earnings were not great. However, cash flow was important. I learned there was a commission paid to people who referred drivers after they finished their first successful ride share. Some of the incentives were crazy. They ranged from $50 to $500 at the time. I think I earned about $7000 one year by buying Facebook ads and recruiting drivers to the platforms.
